I was reading a story yesterday and it amazed me that the future of progress in the entire state depends upon 100% attendance of the Dems in the State Senate. It also occurred to me that the future of the GOP in the State Senate relies upon the same since they can't block anything if they aren't all in attendance and working hard to get one of the more conservative dems to vote with them.
This may be democracy at its best with such an even split, but it is not productive since the people at the helm are simply grandstanding to protect their purse strings. It needs to be more about the people- the old people who can't afford pills, the poor family whose breadwinner(s) lost their job thanks to the rotten economy, and the kids whose classrooms have peeling paint and leaky ceilings.
This is not me being crass about the unfortunate loss of a loved one. It is the reality that the ability of the State Senate to do their job and do it correctly is beholden to ROLL CALL.
This is a great state - rich in diversity, culture, history and amazing natural resources - and we need to start treating it as such.
